Ret. Det. Wayne Bolt
Wayne Bolt, 77, of Marshalls Creek, PA, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2024. Born on August 1, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY, he was a beloved figure in his East Stroudsburg, PA, community, known for his giving nature, many friends, and his larger-than-life personality.
Wayne graduated from Boys High in Brooklyn and soon after joined the Air Force, serving from 1963 to 1967 as an aircraft mechanic during Vietnam. His military service was marked by dedication and a commitment to excellence. Following his honorable discharge, he embarked on a diverse career path which included roles as a shoe salesman, mailman, general manager at Hillside Inn Resort, and most notably, an NYPD police officer, academy instructor, and homicide detective, where he made significant contributions to public safety.
Outside of his professional life, Wayne was passionate about being “a great guy “ He didn’t Have to try to be a great guy. It’s simply what he was. This fact was illuminated by the fact that Wayne seemed to have the largest collection of awards, citations, and honors that any one person could amass. Unsurprisingly to his family and friends, most of them being a variety of Man of the Year awards. If collecting awards can be a hobby, he was a master and he did it by being himself. His volunteering spirit led him to serve on many boards, committees, and projects with the common themes of serving others and doing what is “right.” Pop-Pop, as his grandsons called him, enjoyed playing golf, eating Entenmann’s Thick Fudge Golden cake, and watching nearly any type of sport. His personality especially shined in the stories he told of his experiences as a beat cop, and about his times in Brooklyn as a child. A recent favorite being how he and his very best friend became brothers.
The love of his life, Julianna V. Bolt, preceded him in death. Waynes dedication to his wife during her long illness was steadfast and true. A shining example of unselfish love. He is survived by his sons, Wayne A. Bolt and Jason P. Bolt (Amy) who both followed his lead to become police officers; brother Ronald Guy (Carol;) grandsons Julian Bolt, Alexander Bolt, and Jenson Bolt; nieces and nephews Kym Moye, Tonya Smith, Tiffany Barnes, Brandon Moye, Brittany Moye, Tatianna Smith, Quincy Guy-Barnes, and Logan Barnes. He was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Ann Smith (William.)
A service to honor Wayne’s life will be held at Cohen Recital Hall 125 Fine Arts Dr. East Stroudsburg University, East Stroudsburg, Pa. 18301 on Friday, July 19, 2024, with visitation starting at 10:00am and service to follow at 11:00am. The Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home Inc. 23 North 9th Street Stroudsburg, Pa. is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Stroudsburg Little Bethel Historical Association P. O. BOX 781 Stroudsburg, Pa. 18360 or The ESU Prince Hall Endowed Scholarship Fund. Both are organizations Wayne was passionate about. PulaFuneralHome.com
